The engines behind BLACK

Last updated October 30, 2026

BLACK answers with five live AI engines plus a Docs Analyst for your own files. The RAMBO router chooses the right one for each brief.

Short answer

Claude writes strategy and synthesis, GPT handles code, Gemini handles extraction and your spreadsheets, Perplexity and Grok bring live web and fast-moving news. NotebookLM is not included because it has no public API for answering questions.

Docs Analyst: answers from your own files

Attach an Excel or CSV file in the console. BLACK reads it in your browser, adds a compact data summary to your brief and routes it to Gemini first. The answer uses your column totals, key rows and a chart built from your data. The file itself is not stored on BLACK's servers. See the privacy page for details.

Why not NotebookLM?

Google NotebookLM is a great research notebook, but it does not offer a public API that other apps can send questions to. Rather than show an engine BLACK cannot actually reach, BLACK lists only engines that answer live. The Docs Analyst covers the same need: cited, grounded answers from your own material.

Questions

Does BLACK use NotebookLM?

No. Google NotebookLM does not offer a public API for answering questions, so BLACK cannot connect to it. For answers grounded in your own files, BLACK uses its Docs Analyst, which is powered by Gemini.

What is the Docs Analyst?

When you attach an Excel or CSV file to a brief, BLACK reads it in your browser, adds a compact summary to the brief and routes it to Gemini first, with Claude and GPT as fallbacks. Answers are based on your data, with tables and a chart.

Can I ask a specific engine?

Yes. Mention it by name in your brief, for example 'Ask Grok' or 'What does Claude think?', and RAMBO sends the brief to that engine first.
